Yeah; she’s fantastic. I hate to recommend this course of action, but since the label won’t be forthcoming, I am… er… NOT telling you that you might do a search for the 2011 version and attempt to download it from some dubious place on the internet. I’m not telling you to do that. But I’m saying that if you do, you’ll have a much different experience than you had listening to the USA release. Go read my review of the original that I posted last year. It’s no joke.

I really tried to like the 2012 version of Kimbra’s album (haven’t heard the original release). Just couldn’t get into it… With that said… I saw her open for Foster the People… and FELL IN LOVE w/ her. Such a great performer. I was in a trance the whole time she was on stage.

Great pics as ever, Seth… lots of stuff I agree with and lots of new stuff for me to check out! As big of a PB fan as I am, I would have to go with Fiona’s album as #1. I mean, “The rib is the shell and the heart is the yolk / And I just made a meal for us both to choke on.” It is an absolutely terrifying and awe-inspiringly brilliant insight into mental illness.

Also, is it just me or does it look like the Novelists are all having a group tinkle?

Damn, time does fly when you’re having fun. ;)

I, for one, am glad you stuck it out. (Well, based on the other comment, I guess it should be “I, for another”, but you know what I mean.) You’ve always impressed me, both as a musician and as a person, and I think my world would be the poorer for not having you in it.

Man, that is a sad tale!! And you are a great story-teller! When I got to “And it was gone.” I yelled “NO WAY!” out loud, sitting in front of my computer. Masterful build of plot!!

I’m really glad you stuck it out, didn’t allow yourself to become irreparably cynical, and didn’t throw in the towel! Those of us with taste and imagination are really glad to have you around!

I love a good coffee rant (Living in Ithaca I have observed impassioned coffee wars amongst the citizenry when Starbucks invaded our oasis of small coffee roasters.), but this turned into something more! I loved the analogy! The new world of music is both freeing and bewildering. It is possible to experience thousands (well, probably millions but sometimes we have to step away from our computers!), of artists one would never otherwise hear by finding their work on the internet. But, without the marketing machine of a record company, the question is “How do you find it?” I mostly rely on friends’ recommendations and the lucky chance of encountering an artist’s music. I was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to get turned on to your music. Very fortunate indeed. I hope to steer others to your delicious cafe au lait of sound.

It’s musical, man! That’s why people other than bass players dig it…sometimes even more than bass players :-) I really dig your harmonic sense, and the way you make the fact that you’re doing these “songs” on a bass, secondary. Even the stuff you call simple, still takes a great sense of rhythm to pull off…correctly (i.e. not rushed, even tone, hand/finger placement to get the tone you’re going after).
